人为什么会被吓死呢？医学工作者研究发现，当一个人突然意外地遭受外界惊吓时，大脑会指令肾上腺分泌大量的儿茶酚胺。儿茶酚胺是一种神经介质，包括肾上腺素和去甲肾上腺素，主要由肾上腺所分泌。当人处于极度惊恐状态时，肾上腺会突然释放出大量的儿茶酚胺，促使心跳突然加快，血压升高，心肌代谢的耗氧量急剧增加。过快的血液循环如洪水一般冲击心脏，使心肌纤维撕裂，心脏出血，导致心跳骤停致人死亡。幼儿和老人的心脏功能弱，经不起恐吓；妇女生性胆小，也难以承受惊吓；患有高血压或冠心病者，则会因恐吓引发心肌梗死而死亡。国外医学研究人员在对吓死者的尸体解剖时发现，死者的心肌细胞均受到不同程度的损伤，心肌中夹杂着许多红玫瑰色的血斑，说明出血过多，损害心脏功能。人不仅可以被突然吓死，而且也可以逐步受到恐吓因心理上无法承受而死去。

按理说，人在正常情况下是吓不死的。但是，任何事情都有特殊情况，不怕一万，就怕万一。万一凑巧了还真能吓死人。《三国演义》上不就有一回书叫“死诸葛吓死活仲达”吗？所以，恶作剧要少搞。万一出什么事情就麻烦了。
